Care Farming

Designed for  Elderly, Neighbourhoods & Communities, Urban Spaces.

Objective:  Active involvement in team work, awakening the sense of belonging, active movement, meditative work, connection to nature, and to foster creativity and personal development.

Our proposition is like a "Garden in the Backyard" with an accessible, inclusive and flexible design that includes all types of edible plants and that can be managed by people with reduced mobility. It is important for us to include lean principles in the design and planning to make the work-flow clean and safe and to ensure everyone can have a pleasant experience.

The features include:

1. BOXES: Boxes make the farming task accessible and inclusive, as well as gentle and friendly for our backs. They are adaptive and flexible, and they can be labelled and easily identified, making the space management, the team work and the planning much easier. With the boxes, we can also make sure our plants only become healthy soil. We work with different sizes and shapes to find the best suited design for your space.

2. EDIBLE PLANTS: All plants in the garden are edible and produce a rich variety of vegetables, roots, herbs, berries and fruits. By cultivating them, the elders, neighbours or community members become actively involved in the process of planning a seasonal garden, the meditative or social act of farming, the caring act of observing plants and the creative problem-solving process of attending to their needs and changes, maybe discovering new things, and finally the rewarding act of harvesting and enjoying the tastes of nature.

3. FIXED ELEMENTS: Surrounding or intertwined with the boxes, fixes elements such as trees, shrubs and perennial plants create a welcoming feeling, a canopy and a sense of belonging and security, and most important: they store carbon, reduce temperatures in summer, and stop the winds, making the garden a climate-resilient and a pleasant space.
